Position: Retail Strategy Senior Manager

Location: San Francisco, CA

 

Your role at Sephora:

As the Retail Strategy Senior Manager, you will play an active role in the development of Sephora’s retail strategy through the creation, reporting and analysis of data and metrics. Reporting to the Director, Retail Strategy and working closely with business partners across the organization, you will drive business analytical and financial support to inform and influence sound decision making.

 

In addition, you will:

  • Build out integration capabilities between multiple data platforms to allow for streamlined reporting and enhanced visibility into the health of the retail business
  • Design, develop and maintain dashboards, detailed reporting models and other analytical frameworks that provide insights to executive stakeholders and help inform decision making
  • Analyze business trends across key retail performance indicators including revenue, traffic, conversion, ADS, UPT, operating expenses, client satisfaction and other metrics
  • Create compelling, streamlined presentations for senior leadership based on quantitative, objective analysis that present hypotheses, courses of action and other strategic insights
  • Work cross-functionally to define and operationalize KPIs for short and long-term measurement that align with company initiatives and financial goals
  • Liaison between Business Analytics and Intelligence team to support retail-specific analytics and trends
  • Provide financial modeling and decision-making support for the development of the annual budget, three-year strategy plan, monthly forecasts and other analyses
  • Co-manage the Retail P&L with an understanding of details and drivers behind key lines (sales, gross margin, inventory, etc.); help identify risks and improvement opportunities as well as develop solutions as needed
  • Support month-end close process through variance analysis, preparation of month-end accruals and presentation of close results to senior leadership
  • Prepare ad hoc business intelligence and insights for key stakeholders (e.g., new store performance, competitive information, etc.) to enable strategic, data-driven decision making

We’re excited about you if you have:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Finance or related degree, with solid business acumen or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years’ experience working with large data sets, preferably in a retail or client-facing environment; demonstrably advanced financial modeling skills
  • Experience with data visualization software such as Tableau, Looker, Periscope or similar tools
  • Previous P&L or cost center ownership plus working knowledge of accounting practices (GAAP) and/or financial reporting standards preferred
  • Expert-level proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel (VBA experience a plus) and PowerPoint
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to synthesize complex topics and create compelling narratives for various audiences
  • Comfort developing and navigating multiple cross-functional relationships in order to ascertain data or insights
  • A strategic mindset able to think ahead of where the company is at now
  • Ability to thrive in an environment that is fast-paced, rapidly changing and client service-oriented
