Your role at Sephora:

As a Manager, Performance Engineering, you will be responsible for designing and improving performance, scalability and resiliency of technology platforms spanning e-commerce, mobile, store, supply chain, corporate, and other back office systems. This team defines performance standards, characterizes performance and develops solutions to optimize performance and increase scalability. Reporting to the Director, Engineering, you will manage a bright team of performance engineers spanning multiple locations and time zones. You should have a proven track record for building and managing great teams and products and a history of enterprise software development and performance engineering. You will be part of a bright engineering team that has an open communication, empowerment, innovation, teamwork and customer success culture.  You should have Strong passion for product performance and ability to act as a performance advocate. In addition, you will: 

 

  • Be responsible for Sephora's eCommerce, Mobile, Store, warehouse technologies as well as Sephora's internal technical systems are performant at scale.
  • Lead, grow and motivate a highly talented, diverse, world-class performance engineering team.
  • Manage a team of Performance Lead Engineers, Performance Engineers across multiple geographies to develop, manage, maintain a set of performance testing frameworks to certify Sephora's systems for growth and supporting predicated traffic patterns.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional leaders, Directors, Vice Presidents from different business groups to formulate system capacity plans and growth needs followed by certifying those systems.
  • Transform the organization and the software engineering processes to enable delivery of high performing software to both on-premise as well as the cloud deployments, in a fast-paced environment.
  • Help Sephora continuously improve its technology platform by recommending incremental improvements coming out of continuous performance testing and certification process.
  • Help Sephora's enterprise IT group plan, measure and execute cross-functional technology projects under Engineering and Product Development functions.
  • Lead the team to build and maintain high quality infrastructure for executing performance experiments and tests as well as dash boarding and monitoring performance results.
  • Drive high quality deliverables from the team - performance reports, bugs, technical whitepapers & blogs.
  • Determine hardware/software configurations for optimal performance
  • Actively participate, collaborate, and influence overall IT architecture, direction to build highly scalable applications.
  • Adapt and drive industry best practices to improve results and efficiency of the performance team.
  • Help teams to create and manage performance SLAs for their applications

We’re excited about you if you have:

  • 7-10 years of progressive experience in technology with majority of it in retail industry
  • 2+ years of management experience including experience leading software R&D engineering teams.
  • Ability to work with a large cross-functional team to execute and deliver multiple projects in parallel.
  • Experience in hiring and building engineering teams of size of about 20 engineers
  • Experience with data caching technologies (Redis, Memcached, Coherence, etc.).
  • Technical expertise in eCommerce management products such as Oracle, ATG, Oracle Micros, IBM Sterling, Apache Tomcat and other web technologies.
  • Experience with cloud applications on platforms like Azure.
  • Technical knowledge in mobile web, Android and iOS platforms.
  • Deep understanding of warehouse management products.
  • Hands-on expertise in Performance testing and measurement of web technologies, mobile technologies, warehouse technologies, store technologies such as Point of Sale systems
  • Good understanding of architecture with focus on performance: caching strategies, synchronous vs asynchronous approaches, throughput vs latency.
  • Good understanding of JVM tuning and Java profiling.
  • Knowledge of HTTP, REST and SOAP protocols.
  • Knowledge of optimization and fine-tuning techniques for API, Orchestration, Caching and Data Access stack.
  • Strong business analysis, technical analysis, analytical & critical thinking, decision making ability.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical staff.
  • Strong affinity to visualize solutions using Visio and Lucidchart.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science and / or equivalent experience

 

Preferred

  • Experience with Cloud Scale and modern open-source software such as Cassandra, MongoDB, Kafka etc.
  • Experience with App Dynamics, New Relic or similar APM tools.
  • Knowledge of cloud and on-premise performance testing tools and automation.
  • Experience with or strong knowledge of industry-leading e-commerce solutions including Oracle Commerce/ATG, Oracle MICROS Platform (including Xcenter and RELATE), Red Prairie, JDA, Sterling OMS, Epsilon, Agility Harmony, IBM Xtify.
  • Experience and strong business acumen with Ecommerce, POS, OMS, and WMS technologies.
  • Background in systems performance engineering is highly desired.
  • Exposure to data analytics and machine learning.
  • Experience in Retail-IT space
