Business Intelligence Manager – Asia


At Sephora, we make decisions that impact the future of the omni channel beauty retail customer experience every dayData plays a big role in that, and the Business Intelligence (BI) team enables data-driven decision-making across the business. As our Business Intelligence Manager, you will lead the effort to gain a deep understanding of our data and transform those insights into actionable business decisions that will steer the future of the company. You will continue the drive to transform the team while building a network of decentralized analytical capability in the region.


With your passion and expertise in building analytics capability, you will help drive innovation and disruption in our omni-channel business. Get ready to think creatively, work strategically, and make your mark at a leading global retailer.


This role will work closely with business leaders across the region including South East Asia & Oceania, and South Korea. You will manage the BI team based in Singapore and report to Asia Head of Business Intelligence.

… Enabling Better Decision Making

  • Set the vision and roadmap for the application of data for the region, and actively promote the use of data for decision makingGather, synthesize, and translate business requirements to address business needs
  • Collaborate broadly, across every single function, to support the BI needs of the business as a centre of data excellence and identify relevant insight and analysis to improve decision making
  • Build and maintain real-time or near real-time descriptive reports that enable departments to use evidence to make data driven decisions; consolidate, cleanse, streamline and support the BI platform to improve user experience
  • Empower business teams with the necessary skills and capabilities (and guardrails) to run their own analyses on our BI platform (Domo) and Data Science platform (Dataiku)


…Building a Data-Driven Culture

  • Champion a culture of data-informed decision-making and advance our data capabilities across all functions (from office employees to cast members in stores)
  • Drive thought leadership to improve the organization’s data rigor through education
  • Animate and inspire a network of decentralized analytical talents across the region through best practice sharing and skills & capability upgrades among; mentor/coach other analytical talents to build skills and capabilities together


… Advanced Analytics

  • Lead Advanced Analytics projects
  • Work with Data/IT teams to align the architecture and infrastructure needed to serve the analytics needs of the business
  • Experiment with new technologies in machine learning and AI, or simply ways of thinking about data


… Team Leadership

  • Build, coach and mentor a team of world class BI analysts to identify, define and solve high impact business problems and opportunities
  • Empower each member of the team to derive actionable and relevant insights, and to act as a “consultant” in providing data informed recommendations to the business teams
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement, utilizing e-learning tools for team learning initiatives to ensure the members’ skills and knowledge base remains relevant in the evolving field of data analytics
  • Continue to transform the team from a reporting focus to forward looking data usage, deriving insights and ultimately predictive analytics



We would love to hear from you if…

  • You have experience building and leading a BI function in an MNC environment with fast pace and high complexity
  • You have a passion for data and at least 7 years’ professional experience in analyzing large datasets and translating it to actionable business insights
  • You have experience leading transformative initiatives and effectively influencing senior level stakeholders
  • You have a relentless zeal to unearth patterns or problems in the data, and are persistent in serving our internal customers
  • You are advanced level in SQL and in building effective views on a data visualization platform (eg, Tableau, Qlik, Domo, etc.)
  • You are (at least) intermediate in building models either in Python or R, or on a data science platform (eg, Dataiku, Alteryx, etc.). Some Python experience is preferred
  • You have a growth mindset: open and eager to learn/try new things, as well as the adaptability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • You have good command of spoken and written English; fluency in Mandarin is a plus to work with China-based stakeholders an advantage
