ABOUT THE ROLE:

As the Merchant, you will develop and implement strategies for a fast-growing and emerging category at Sephora! You will be accountable for achieving the financial and strategic goals of your category including sales, gross margin, weeks of supply and stock turnover. You will develop and implement the department objectives, brand strategies, client needs and visual presentation within the category; as well as establish and maintain excellent relationships with vendors, negotiate and lead assortments and seasonal products, manage compliance with the government standards, and maintain consistency with the US strategy.

 

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • As a people leader, mentor and foster a work environment that embodies Sephora's values while communicating strategic direction to team members
  • Create and implement the overall strategy for growth and pricing with new product introductions and strategic expansion of current brands, lead brand relationships, terms negotiations, including margin, testers/damages, training support, co-op, RTVs, samples
  • Develop and handle assortment and plan promotions, launches, animations for brands, identify areas of opportunity, and source new brands that fill an important need gap within the category
  • Collaborate and plan promotions, launches, animations, including fixture/planograms planning and implementation with Internal Partners
  • Partner with the Planning Team to ensure Brand objectives are appropriately aligned to inventory investment; handle brand fill rate and P.O. fulfillment with the Inventory Management team
  • Collaborate and communicate with the Education Team to develop and complete Brand training needs, ensure accurate assortments are posted on Stores Intranet and provide in-store support as required including communicating brand/business opportunities
  • Follow-up of Health Canada regulations and product registration process to aid in the management of new product registration in order to ensure compliance

 

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:

  • You're an experienced buyer/merchandiser/planner with at least 5 years' in the retail space with a Bachelor's degree or College Diploma in Retail Management
  • You have a creative mind and you're willing to take calculated risks to seek out new opportunities to grow the business by understanding consumer trends and behaviour
  • You love product (beauty is your jam!), and inspire fearlessness in everything that you do
  • You're curious, a go-getter and love tackling problems and using your analytical skills to find solutions.
  • You have an entrepreneurial spirit, thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, and relish in working collaboratively with cross-functional groups
  • You've mastered the art of negotiation, demonstrating an ability to articulate ideas with clarity, precision, and integrity
  • Great at expressing yourself clearly and creatively both in writing and in conversation - fluently bilingual in both English and French is an asset
  • You're technically savvy and know your way around Excel
  • You understand the Canadian marketplace and corresponding vendor organization and have some knowledge of the Canadian cosmetic industry
  • You're game for travel! - up to 25% travel required
